Essaouira
Southern Morocco's most favored coastal town- and the one most easily reached
from Marrakech- offers both a contrast and an escape from the hustle and
bustle of the city. It's around 2 and a half hours away by taxi (£35 one
way).
In the 15th century the Portuguese occupied Mogador, as it was then called
and built fortifications around the harbor.
